June Faves! Beauty & Random!

I can not wrap my head around the fact it is already July!!! My birthday Month!!! Yey!!!

For this blog, I decided rather then write a regular Monthly Faves and Flops, I decided to do a Monthly Beauty Faves and Non Beauty Faves section! Hope you enjoy the change up! ❤

Beauty Faves

Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Face Palette– Let’s take a moment of silence to appreciate this Bomb. Ass. Palette!
The white and gold packaging is so beautiful and luxurious looking.

Two highlighters and three blushes make up this little bundle of joy.
All stunning, super pigmented powders that make you glow like the goddess that is Jaclyn Hill.
This palette is very versatile where you can mix highlights and blushes to make your own colour concoctions.
Also, I have been loving using the highlights as eyeshadows for an easy all over lid shade. Shimmery and perfect for Summer. 🙂

Smashbox primer water – I purchased this in a kit of Primers by Smashbox. At first, I didn’t think this would work, but I’m convinced it’s helpful in making my makeup go on better.

It’s lightweight and doesn’t feel greasy, so it definitely will be an essential in my summer makeup routine.

Daval lipsticks– I recently wrote a blog post on these beauties. I have worn these lipsticks all month and I am obsessed. I need all the colours. Here is the link to the post so you can read up some more on this new East Coast brand!

Urban Decay Alice Through the Looking Glass palette- Now I’m not going to lie here, I mainly bought this for the packaging.

I’m THAT sucker that companies lovvvveeee.

Anything Glittery, gimme it.

Anything gimmicky, throw it the bag.

Anything with cute extras, I’ll take two please!

I’ll apologize for mentioning this little baby, because unfortunately it was limited edition. So if you got your hands on it you are very fortunate.

The palette comes with a pretty decent double ended brush and some pretty decent shadows. Lots of neutrals and some pretty pops of colour too. And a freaking Pop up Butterfly!!!!!!!!!!!

Babe lash extensions – I was always against getting lashes for myself because:
A- the maintenance and B-the cost…..

Buttttt with that being said, a coworker needed a model to complete her certification.
So twist my rubber arm, I’ll get free extensions. Whatever.

So I must say (and here comes a humble brag)… I am blessed to have dark and fairly thick lashes. I also can pop on false lashes with hardly any effort anymore, so I never expected to love extensions as much as I do.
Damn these addictive, little, fluttery, long, dark, face gracing angels. Damn them right to hell.
I can wake up in the morning and not feel like a complete gremlin.
So that in itself is a true testament to their beautifying powers.

Lancome Le Vie est Belle – I received a few samples of this in the last two months and I was pleasantly surprised. The notes according to the website are Jasmine, Tunisian Orange Blossom and Sambac(whatever that is).

I am very fussy with scents and this is definitely one I am considering going out and splurging on the big bottle!
Maybelline Loaded Bolds Matte lipstick – I managed to get my hands on the dark blue called “Midnight Blue”

I have another blue in my lippie collection ( Kat Von D “Echo”) and the Maybelline by far is my favourite of the two and only half the price.

The pigmentation is great. The lasting power is impressive. The colour selection go from neutral everyday to fun colours like blue, white, black, etc.

Non beauty/ Random Faves
Me Before You” Book and Movie –

If you are looking for a book or movie to rip the heart right out from your chest then proceed to stomp on it a few times, then this is for you.

Don’t get me wrong, the uncontrollable crying I did while watching the movie (and wiping my nose with a popcorn butter soaked napkin) did not take away from my love of the characters and storyline. I dare say I loved this movie more then most girls loved the “Notebook”…. That may be sacrilege, but whatever.
Starbucks Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher w/ Coconut milk-

I found this on my new favourite Instagram page “Starbucks Secret Menu”

It is deeeeelllllliiicccciiiioooousssss.

Dairy free (a bonus for you other Lactose sensitive peeps!)
It also has berries in it, which makes you feel semi healthy…..sort of?
Red jumpsuit from Winners– I bought this gem over a year and a half ago from Winners and didn’t have the guts (or the right Spanx) to wear it.

Then push came to shove and I had to have a nice outfit to wear to my bestie’s Wedding Shower this past June. So I sucked it up (and in) and wore it.

Why was I so silly?!?!
I have never had so many compliments on an outfit.

I need to follow my own advice and go outside my comfort zone and wear things I’m not 100% sure on.

And there they all are. My Favourites from the month of June!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that most of these will continue to be favourites for the whole Summer. 😉

Till next time folks,

-Nicole xo

P.S. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Canada Day weekend and my American friends have a Happy July 4th holiday tomorrow! ❤

First Impressions: Daval Beauty Lipsticks

Cruelty free. Vegetarian. Paraban Free. Fragrance free. Highly Pigmented. Matte, yet comfortable.

Just some words to describe an exciting new brand coming out of the maritimes.

I am all for supporting local businesses, especially when they have a product that is really kickass!!!

DAVAL Beauty is handcrafted in my home province of Nova Scotia.

I do believe the actual line just officially launched last week and was a MAJOR success!

The best ( or worst) type of advertising is word of mouth and in this day and age, social media presence!  In this case, both really paid off for this brand.

I managed to purchase my three shades at a new Spa in Sydney (Nurtured Holistic Esthetics) , which is run by my friend Jillian. Check her out!!

On a side note, I’m a big believer in supporting another Esthechian’s success and growth. Plus, I love pampering myself and picking her brain for any tips/tricks to better myself in the long run 🙂

But back to these lippies!!

I purchased the shades “Malrah”, “Tommy Guns” and “Olive” and I’m patiently waiting to go pick up a newer shade that is coming out, “Lioness”.

Pictured Below :Tommy Guns (left) Olive (centre) Malrah (right)

All very different colours and I am still on the fence with which one is my favourite.
With these and any matte finish lipsticks, you definitely should have your lips properly exfoliated and moisturizered before hand. (I used Lush’s Bubble gum lip scrub and Eucerin Intensive lip balm.)

As far as lasting power, I really only got to wear Malrah for a few hours yesterday and today. I was pretty pleased at what was left after I inhaled a Birthday Cake Cake pop and gulped down a Venti Iced Chai Latte (p.s. if you haven’t had one, you haven’t lived!) :p

Overall Impressions:

Lipstick is by far my favourite makeup item. I am always looking for great new colours to add to my ridiculously huge and embarrassing collection and DAVAL definitely has lots of fun but easily wearable shades. ✔️

Also, Matte finish lipsticks are my favourite finish. I’m much too busy to be worrying about if my lipstick is all worn off or smeared all over my teeth. So DAVAl gets another ✔️

As I previously stated, I like supporting local businesses. I also love the fact of a woman run business. This company is both. ✔️

A bonus is the price is right. The introductory price was $12.o4 and no tax.

Nurtured Esthetics had a special limited time price of 2 for $20. I would pay more and have in the past for other lipsticks that aren’t even as good!! ✔️

The packaging is simple and the label is cute. If it has a puppy on it, I will like it. ✔️

So I guess you have probably figured out by now, that I really like this product and my first impression is that of a good one!

I know as of this moment,  DAVAL is only sold on Etsy and at two places in Sydney, NS. And they are with limited supplies. So go find them on Instagram to find out when and how to get your hands on these hot little items ❤

Recent Faves, Raves & Flops

In the last few months of being the worst blogger in the history of bloggers, I have accumulated quite of bit of makeup and new products. Some being awesome finds and others not so awesome finds.
So let’s just jump into the goodies, shall we?!

Faves & Raves

Clinique Beyond Perfection Foundation and Concealer
-While the mission to get this foundation was a pain in my ass( anyone that knows me, knows this story and I will spare everyone else the drama!) when I finally managed to get my hands on it, it did not disappoint!
This foundation has impressive coverage and a nice finish, it doesn’t make my skin break out and the price wasn’t terrible either.
My only issue is the colour selection. I had to buy a shade darker then I normally would because their lack of light shades was limited, so ladies who are more fair then I may have a trickier time finding a matching shade.

Nyx Strobe of Genius Palette
-My local Shoppers drug mart has recently become one of my favourite places. Why? Because it carries all kinds of Nyx makeup now, that’s why!!
This little gem is great for someone who doesn’t want to spend a fortune on highlighters and still get a decent glow.
I mainly dip into the three bottom colours, the top few I wasn’t crazy over, but may work for other skin tones. 🙂

Nyx Contour Palette
– Another steal from the drugstore! I thought I loved my Kat Von D Shade and Light palette till I met this little fella. You receive more colour options in Nyx’s palette and it’s cheaper. I may even like the formula just a smidge more in this one too.

Nyx Liquid Suede Lipsticks
– I am obsessed with these babies. Great colour pay off, long wearing and a fun shade range that would get any makeup junkie excited. So far, I own Stone fox ( a cool dark greyish shade), Amethyst ( a fun, bright purple shade) and Pink Lust ( a perfect summer fuchsia )
Tip: These lippies, like any matte lipstick formula tend to be a little drying, so make sure to moisturize your lips prior to applying them!)

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder
-Love, love, love this for setting my under eye area. It totally reduces the amount of creasing I get with my concealer. It also brightens my oh so lovely dark circles. Thank you Nicole Guerriero for your infinite makeup wisdom and using this on your YouTube Channel and making me go out and buy this (among all kinds of other things).
My wallet hates you though…….

Too Faced Hangover Primer
– Now , I don’t know if it’s this primer or because my Clinique foundation is long lasting, but I really like this stuff and how my makeup looks/lasts. If anything, it moisturizes my face and smells like Pina coladas and who doesn’t want their face smelling so yummy?! 🙂

Graftobian High Definition Color Palette
– In April, I got to have an amazing opportunity and a totally kick ass time doing makeup for Eastlink , during East Coast Music week.
My mom, being the best person she is, bought me this foundation palette. These are highly concentrated colours that range from the fairest fair to the darkest dark. I figured this would be a great opportunity to get some quality things that I could really use in my ever growing kit.
The foundations are great for use for photoshoots and video as they do not give flashback and they are long lasting & high coverage.
The only downfall is they are on the pricier side. Thank god my Momma loves me ❤

While I don’t have a ton of bad products for this post, I do have one 😦

Hourglass Strobe Powders
– I’m unsure if I’m just not using this correctly, but I don’t think I like it.
I thought for the price and the name, I would be blown away. But, my Nyx highlighters are better and half the price. 😦 So, needless to say I am disappointed. I will continue to use it though and hopefully change my mind. Or it will be lost in the clutter that is my makeup room.

And there you have it. Now go out and buy all kinds of stuff so I don’t feel so alone in my bad shopping habits.

Till next time,

Xoxo Gossip Girl…..

I mean, Nicole 🙂

How to Look Good (When you feel like Crap)

We’ve all had those days.

You either wake up sick with a dreaded cold (totally NOT your fault) or you wake up on your boyfriend’s parent’s bathroom floor with a raging wine headache and hangover, not knowing the day or the time  (hypothetically speaking……..) This one IS your own fault.

Regardless, you feel awful inside and out. While it takes time, meds and McDonald’s cheeseburgers to help the inside feel better, I have a few tips to help the outside look presentable when you actually feel like dying.

1- Water- drink lots of it and get a shower. Pretty simple. Drinking alcohol dehydrates you. You need to refuel and cleanse those toxins inside and out.  Also if you can, try and remember to wash off your makeup the night before.

2- Depuff swollen and blood shot eyes with either cold spoons or teabags. Use some soothing eyedrops. Apply eye cream and a good concealer. Finish with Mascara. All these things will help you look more lively and less “Walking Dead like.”

3- Your face. Fix it. Apply concealer, tinted moisturizer or whatever to hide any imperfections. Then apply a nice pinkish blush. So even when your nausea makes you feel as white as a ghost, you’ll still have a little bit of colour in your face so you don’t appear see through.

4- Apply some Moisturizing Lipstick. Pink is probably the best bet here as well. Just enough to again, give colour to your Casper face. This part does wonders. Trust me.

5- Wear your hair neat and pulled back. Apply some dry shampoo and get it out of your face somehow. Neat ponytails and topknots can act as a face lift.

6- Invest in some Big, Dark Sunglasses. (Do not wear these indoors though. It’s a clear giveaway you’re hungover…or that you’re a big loser, Don’t be that person!)

7- Throw on some nice earrings. The bling will distract onlookers from your hot mess-iness.

8) This may be a little self explanatory but, brush your teeth and pop in a peppermint. Peppermint has natural properties that can sometimes help with nausea and in your case, beer breath.

If all of these fail to help with your appearance, just call it a day. Throw on some Netflix and hide in your room. Ha!ha!

-Nicole xo 😉

Ps- I must say, I’m a big believer in making yourself look your best when you feel your worst. It may be hard to do for some, I understand that. But if you look a little better, I definitely think you feel better.  Hope this helps anyone who may have  had a little too much fun last night or plan to in the near future…*cough* Shauna *cough* 😉

For the Fellas…..

Got a hairy back? Kind of like a “coat” under your actual coat?

A chest that resembles Steve Carell in 40 year old Virgin?

A set of talons for toenails? or perhaps heels that could cut your bed sheets to shreds?

I don’t know how many times I’ve had this conversation with people ( male or female)……

Looking after one’s self is not “girly” or “prissy” …..it is essential to not looking like a bum (unless you’re going for that hobo chic sort of thing?)

It makes you feel better. It makes you look better. A little trip to a salon/spa can do wonders!

You only have one set of hands, one set of feet and only one face. Why not look after it properly? Men’s skin and hands need love just as much as the lady’s do…maybe even more so?

I understand the spa can be an intimidating thing looking in from the outside….all the soft lighting… the smells…women chit chatting with other women who have so much metallic foil in their hair it looks like they could communicate with E.T….

Then there is the music that’s so calming it makes you want to go to your car and listen to death metal when you leave…(no? oh….just me then….)

Anyway….it’s a strange world. But….Women know what’s up and men should probably follow suit.

The majority of my clientele is most definitely of the female race. I do however have a few brave souls of men then come see me regularly and I see others that come to other Spa Therapists, Massage therapists and hair stylists.

I once had a very shy man surprisingly exclaim in the middle a joint facial with his partner that if he had known how great this would of been, he would of came in long ago!

Bam!!! One Man brought over to the dark side!!

Like I previously stated…you only have one face. Your skin needs to be looked after (especially if there are any concerns such as aging, acne, etc.) As a man, you probably have to shave that face…that can sometimes get irritated, dry or breakout. A facial is a perfect way to treat any or all of those issues and get to relax at the same time. And Lord knows,  everyone can always use a little relaxation in out busy/hectic lives these days, right?

So now that I have convinced you to look after your face, lets work our way down to looking after that fur of yours. I’m talking back and chest waxing or laser hair removal.

Just like women, the trend this day and age is the less the hair the better…same kind of goes for guys. Sure you don’t have to get rid of all of it, but a little maintenance can go a long way.

Not going to lie at all here, this hair removal thing is probably going to hurt like a mother.

But if I see you on the beach looking like some sort of second cousin to Chewbacca, I’m going to contemplate handing you my business card.(and you should take it as a big, fat hint) Your wife/girlfriends can thank me later….saving them the time and effort of shaving your back will make everyone very happy!

Also, eyebrows. There should be two. I’ll let you contemplate that one.

Ps…I’m going to move on from the hair removal thing and skip over the whole “Man scaping…Man Brazilian thing”…that’s an entirely other post in itself and I’m not really sure I want to even go there…..Just take care of it gentlemen…that’s all I’m going to say…. K… Bye.

Next in line is your Hand and Foot care. If you are a business or white collar sort of fella, you are going to be dealing with people and trying to look professional. Nothing says I don’t give a rotten dam then gnarly hangnails and uber scaly skin. Get a “Man”icure. They aren’t just for housewives of Beverly Hills anymore. And for hard working Blue Collared Men, your poor hands deserve some TLC.

Keep nails short, clean and use a little moisturizer from time to time. Also, you would’t think it, but a hand massage is wonderful. People hold tons of tension in our hands and fingers, your digits will thank you.

This all goes the same for your tootsies. Keep toenails short, filed evenly, clean and get some of that callus buildup removed. Your feet will love you for it and so will whoever has to sleep in the same bed as you at night.

A pedicure and manicure DOES NOT mean you have to have pretty, pink polish! It is much, much more then that. Elderly men and men with any medical conditions (ex. diabetes)  should really look after your feet properly. You have to walk on these things for your whole life, a pedicure is not a girly thing….it should be thought of as an essential life thing.

Next on the agenda, Massage therapy. If you have medical coverage, Please take advantage of this. It’s amazing. Get over the whole stranger touching your body thing and get a massage. We are hard on our backs and limbs, it is also great for the mind and relaxation. Can not stress the importance of this in living a healthy life.

Lastly I’m going to discuss something I know a little about….I’m not a hairdresser….but you should definitely be getting your hair cut by a professional. You don’t have to spend tons of money…but just don’t use those rusty kitchen scissors and bowl to achieve your style. It’s bad. Plus, once you’ve had someone else give you a scalp massage….you will be hooked. Promise!

So there you have it. Now get your wife, mother, sister, bff to book you an appointment at your local spa and salon. You can be brave and go it alone or perhaps take them along and have a nice little spa day together.

🙂 🙂

Landscaping… And I’m not talking about the bushes in the back yard….

Warning- if you are even  a little bit easily offended or embarrassed …You might not like this post.(and that’s totally fine)

I recently asked Facebook friends and family to send me some beauty related questions. I am currently putting together a list and coming up with the best possible answers. (Bare with me, the response was great and questions are still coming in, so that post may take a while to go up.)

For this entry, I was asked by a few friends everything there is to know about….. BRAZILIANS!!!! That’s right, Lady-bits Landscaping!

And I’m going to try my best to best to explain what happens from the time you come in for your appointment to the time you leave and everything in between (no pun intended!!)

When you first come into the spa room, you will be asked to undress from the waist down and lay on a table. Throw your inhibitions to the wind if you are coming in for this service. Aestheticians have seen it all and a good one should make you feel comfortable. You will be givin something to cover yourself whether it’s a towel, sheet, robe or even disposable paper thongs ( I would suggest going without the thong, it’s just easier for everyone and doesn’t get in the way. There are ways to cover and drape yourself with the other options that you won’t feel completely bare.)

A Brazilian is typically the removal of all the hair from front to back. Some people opt for a small strip of hair left over in the front, but a lot of people choose to go completely hairless. So make sure you let your waxer know what you prefer before you start.

To make the waxing process easiest on you and the waxer, your hair should be 1/4 an inch or just past the stubbly, stuck up stage. If it’s too short, you will be asked to reschedule for another time. Too short means the wax will not properly grip the hairs and you will not get a clean wax.

If the hair is too long, I would suggest trimming with small scissors before you come in or the waxer will have to do it for you. Too long hair = more difficult! more painful!

When I received my training for this, we started off the service with the client on the table on hands and knees and proceeded to remove the hair in the back and work forward. I find that method a bit unnerving for a lot of clients (especially newbies), so I don’t start that way anymore, but don’t be surprised if some people ask you to be in downward dog when they re enter the room :/

There are two types of waxes that can be used for Brazilians.

Soft wax- a hot wax that is applied and removed with a material cloth.

Hard wax- wax that is applied and left to cool on the skin til it hardens completely. Most people would agree this type is the best for Brazilian waxing because it is more gentle on the skin and more sensitive areas and let’s face it, where we’re dealing with, it’s sensitive. :/

Most treatments are anywhere from 30-60 mins long. Experienced waxers will definitely try to get you waxed and finished fast, but in a safe manner.

A little side note for this service, make sure your waxer is wearing gloves and not double dipping their waxing sticks. This is all for your safety and to prevent cross contamination.

During your session there will be tweezing done for the hairs that would not come out cleanly on the wax strips

In your appointment , you will  be asked to “hold” in certain places to keep skin taunt to prevent ripping of the skin. You will also be asked to adjust your legs to get in the hard to reach areas.

I had a friend ask “Is there anyway to get the hair in the back without getting on all fours?” And there is!! You can either lay on your back and pull you legs/knees up or lay on your side or lie on your stomach and hold your buttocks. Surprisingly enough, this is the part that hurts the least but is definitely the part most women find scary. No worries though, it’s usually one of two quick strips and your done. If you are getting the front done, might as well clean up the back.

If you are absolutely terrified about the pain, it’s not as bad as you think. Sure it hurts, you are yanking hair from your nether regions!!! It’s bearable. Try to relax, things hurt more when you are tense and stressed.

Also try not to book your waxing right before or during your period. We tend to be sookier around that time and more sensitive.

Once you are done, you will be given an after wax/calming solution.  Rebook for 4-6 weeks and that’s it! You’re like brand new!

Another question I received was “what is vajazzaling? And “what is a Vajacial?” And well, the answer to that is they are services done after you would have your Brazilian waxing complete.

Everyone remembers their “Bedazzlers” as a child. You added rhinestones to clothing, shoes, etc. Vajazzaling is pretty much the same. Adding temporary gems and sparkles down there.

A “Vajacial” is basically a facial for your lady bits. Cleanse, toned, exfoliated, treatment masks applied, etc. Just skincare for down there……

I can honestly say I have yet to have to do either of these treatments. I feel these are probably more popular in Hollywood and are not very common in our small little town.

Hope this answered the questions of the few girls who messaged me!

I’m pretty well an open book on this stuff and nothing really surprises me anymore. It’s weird. I used to be the most shy person in the world and I’m pretty sure “Brazilian waxer” was not what I answered as a five year old on what I wanted to be when I grew up. But I assure you, it’s probably not the worst job in the world…like an accountant or something…ewww…

-Nicole xo 🙂

I am probably driving everyone “batty” with all my Facebook and Instagram posts about Halloween! But, here is another just to make sure I cover all forms of my social media outlets!!! 😉

I don’t remember being that overly excited for Halloween as a child. I mean, it was kind of fun to dress up as a gypsy, vampire, cheerleader, clown, black cat, etc. I almost always had these costumes made by my lovely Grandmother until I got a bit older and it was no longer “cool”.

When I was younger, You couldn’t of paid me to watch any Halloween or scary movies or TV shows. I’m still working on being courageous enough to watch the “Saw” movies. I HATE gore and blood and anything overly violent (so sensitive) But since I’ve met the BF, I can proudly say I have watched most of the Jason and Micheal Myers movies ( It still counts if I covered my face for most of them though, right?)

In high school and university years… Halloween was a bit different!  As Lindsey Lohen said in Mean Girls  ” In the regular world, Halloween is when children dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In Girl World, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”…..Preach, Girl!!

*covers face in shame*

Fast forward a bit of time and now Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year (minus Christmas, I LOVEEEE Christmas to the point of being annoying! Can’t wait to bust out the ol Reindeer Sock Bun again 🙂 )

Being an “adult” and I use that term lightly…I love Halloween &  watching children come trick or treating in their cute, little costumes.  I also love the Candy and chips and bars and pop that is left behind when only 10 kids come to the house!! ( however, my waistline does not…..)

I also love the fact that as I got older,  my Halloween makeup skills have got a bit better!
