Recent Beauty Faves & Purchases

Hey all!

Sorry for being M.I.A lately.

Time some how managed to slip by and I have accumulated a ton of new goodies in the past few months.  πŸ™‚

While I was away, I ended up hitting an all time beauty high (or low if you are my wallet) and reached “VIB Rouge” status at Sephora 😐

So rather then ramble on, lets just get into the good stuff that you came here to read about!

Face

Pur Miracle Mist –  This is my second bottle of this little mist. Smells like oranges and is so refreshing and hydrating. I generally wear it under my primer/makeup or by itself on no makeup days.

Aveda Tulasara Wedding Eye Mask- while I haven’t had this product for very long, I loveeeeee it already.  Super rich, super hydrating but not heavy feeling, this mask helps brighten and tighten your eye area. Seeing as I am two years ago from the big 3-0… I figured I better start looking after my skin more and do some more preventative work.

First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer-  I recently purchased this little gem with giftcards I  received for Christmas. I am obsessed with the scent. It smells like Pina Coladas! ( and who doesn’t love that?!) It also appears to be helping my makeup last longer and look smoother.

Touch in Sol Feel like Honey Moon Skin Base-  I don’t know know why but lately I have been on a makeup primer and foundation buying spree. I am constantly on the lookout for the best hydrating and brightening primers and this is definitely a great one.

Lise Watier Magic Fix-  Refreshing scent and light mist make this a great makeup setting spray. It helps  any of my makeup from looking too “powdery” .

Urbay Decay All Nighter Foundation- this foundation claims to be full coverage and longwearing/waterproof and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. I loved wearing this to stand in my best friends wedding. It photpgraphs well and doesn’t budge, even after dancing all night! πŸ™‚

Josie Maran Vibrancy Foundation- While I did buy this almost a year ago, I don’t feel like I have talked about it much. This foundation is beautiful especially on someone with dryer skin (which mine has been as of recently)  It gives just enough glow to the skin without looking greasy or too shiney.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation and Concealer- another Christmas giftcard purchase. I have to say, I like the foundation, but I definitely didn’t pick the right shade and perhaps I will like it better in the summer when I’m more sunkissed rather then Snow White 😦

Saying that, the concealer is just the right shade of pasty white and is lighweight enough to not crease but enough  coverage to hide my raccoon eyes.

Kat Von D Lock it Cream Concealer- in comparison to the Tarte concealer, this stuff is heavy duty. I haven’t tried to cover any tattoos, but I would say it would do a great job in a pinch. I do like this product, however if you have a lot of fine lines or dehydrated undereyes, I would not recommend this.

Blissful Beauty Mineral Makeup Highlighter in Champagne- if you live on the East coast, I suggest you try out this local gal’s products. I have her foundations, lipglosses, blushes, bronzers and now highlighters.

Im a sucker for anything glowy. These powders are beautiful and give a natural but noticeable glow to the skin. They are paraben free, hypoallergenic and perfect for anyone looking to support local businesses! Thanks Amanda!!! ❀️
Benefit Rockteaur Box Blush- I forgot to take a picture of this (Sorry!!) While I am not a huge   blush lover and it is probably my least bought type of beauty product, Benefit’s products never disappoint me and this rose gold blush is very wearable and pretty and the packaging can some what be seem above in the first picture on this post.

Cèlavi Oval Brushes- Let us take a minute to admire this amazing Winners find. While I have never heard of this brand, I have seen a lot of reviews on this type of brush. So far, I have fallen in love with the foundation and concealer brushes. Not entirely sure how to use a few of the eye brushes, but Im sure I will get the hang of it sooner then later.
Eyes

Benefit Browvo Conditioning Primer- I truly don’t know if this has helped my brows grow a bit more or it’s because I’m a hairy beast, but this stuff is great at prepping my brows for any other brow products whether it pencil or powder.

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil- by far my favourite brow pencil I have ever tried to date. Currently using up my second one of these bad boys. With a thicker, slanted pencil side and spooly on the other end, this does in fact make filling in your brows “goof proof” .

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Rose Gold-  What a mouth full for a product name. Beautiful, pigmented and shimmery. Just a few words to describe this shadow. While kind of on the pricier side for an individual shadow ($24) this is definitely worth the money. Another product that stood the test of time and sweat on the dancefloor of while standing all day in a wedding.

Mac Nutcracker Pigment Christmas Set- So sparkly, so pretty, such cute packaging. My brother and sister hit the nail on the head with this gift. I have always loved Mac’s loose pigments and this kit is no exception. They can be used wet or dry to suit whatever type of look you are going for.

Kiss Looks So Natural “Flirty” lashes- these lashes are very light weight and wispy. I love how these looked when I wore them to a recent Brad Paisley Concert. I will be willing to bet, I will be repurchasing these lashes for wedding parties and brides this summer.

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics- This All matte, all pigmented palette is by far my favourite Naked palette from Urban Decay. There are 12 shades in a beautiful rose gold package. It also comes with a double ended brush and a huge mirror which are always nice bonuses.  I “basically” wear this pallete every day and it has quickly become one of my all time favourite products ever. Period.

Lips

Stila Stay All Day Mattieficent Lipstick in “Coquille”- a taupe nude shade is my go to colour for any look. Whether dramatic or natural. This lipstick stays put on your lips and isn’t as drying as a liquid lipstick formula. It also comes in a variety of other pretty and wearable shades to suit anyone.

Bite Beauty Gold Creme LipGloss- while I understand Gold lips aren’t for everyone, I love the look of this gloss.

I could be wrong, but I do believe this was a limited edition shade but if you have a chance to try any of Bite Beauty’s Creme glosses, check em out!

And if you have made it this far, give yourself a pat on the back for getting through all my talking.

I seriously need to go on a makeup buying break/hibernation  πŸ˜¦ I feel I have accumulated enough to get me through the winter and to keep my makeup bag full and happy till spring!

(I don’t know if I’m kidding myself or not, guess time will tell… Or if I win the lottery hahahah)

To anyone living in the maritimes region reading this, stay safe with this crazy blizzard that is pounding us currently and to anyone traveling down south, I hate you. Jk…. Sort of.

Till next time folks,

Love always,

-Nicole πŸ™‚

June Faves! Beauty & Random!Β

Heyyy!!!!!
I can not wrap my head around the fact it is already July!!! My birthday Month!!! Yey!!!

For this blog, I decided rather then write a regular Monthly Faves and Flops, I decided to do a Monthly Beauty Faves and Non Beauty Faves section! Hope you enjoy the change up! ❀

Beauty Faves

Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Face Palette– Let’s take a moment of silence to appreciate this Bomb. Ass. Palette!
The white and gold packaging is so beautiful and luxurious looking.

Two highlighters and three blushes make up this little bundle of joy.
All stunning, super pigmented powders that make you glow like the goddess that is Jaclyn Hill.
This palette is very versatile where you can mix highlights and blushes to make your own colour concoctions.
Also, I have been loving using the highlights as eyeshadows for an easy all over lid shade. Shimmery and perfect for Summer. πŸ™‚

Smashbox primer water – I purchased this in a kit of Primers by Smashbox. At first, I didn’t think this would work, but I’m convinced it’s helpful in making my makeup go on better.

It’s lightweight and doesn’t feel greasy, so it definitely will be an essential in my summer makeup routine.

Daval lipsticks– I recently wrote a blog post on these beauties. I have worn these lipsticks all month and I am obsessed. I need all the colours. Here is the link to the post so you can read up some more on this new East Coast brand!

https://beautyjunkiesanonymous.wordpress.com/2016/06/14/first-impressions-daval-beauty-lipsticks/

Urban Decay Alice Through the Looking Glass palette- Now I’m not going to lie here, I mainly bought this for the packaging.

I’m THAT sucker that companies lovvvveeee.

Anything Glittery, gimme it.

Anything gimmicky, throw it the bag.

Anything with cute extras, I’ll take two please!

I’ll apologize for mentioning this little baby, because unfortunately it was limited edition. So if you got your hands on it you are very fortunate.

The palette comes with a pretty decent double ended brush and some pretty decent shadows. Lots of neutrals and some pretty pops of colour too. And a freaking Pop up Butterfly!!!!!!!!!!!

Babe lash extensions – I was always against getting lashes for myself because:
A- the maintenance and B-the cost…..

Buttttt with that being said, a coworker needed a model to complete her certification.
So twist my rubber arm, I’ll get free extensions. Whatever.

So I must say (and here comes a humble brag)… I am blessed to have dark and fairly thick lashes. I also can pop on false lashes with hardly any effort anymore, so I never expected to love extensions as much as I do.
Damn these addictive, little, fluttery, long, dark, face gracing angels. Damn them right to hell.
I can wake up in the morning and not feel like a complete gremlin.
So that in itself is a true testament to their beautifying powers.

Lancome Le Vie est Belle – I received a few samples of this in the last two months and I was pleasantly surprised. The notes according to the website are Jasmine, Tunisian Orange Blossom and Sambac(whatever that is).

I am very fussy with scents and this is definitely one I am considering going out and splurging on the big bottle!
Maybelline Loaded Bolds Matte lipstick – I managed to get my hands on the dark blue called “Midnight Blue”

I have another blue in my lippie collection ( Kat Von D “Echo”) and the Maybelline by far is my favourite of the two and only half the price.

The pigmentation is great. The lasting power is impressive. The colour selection go from neutral everyday to fun colours like blue, white, black, etc.

Non beauty/ Random Faves
Me Before You” Book and Movie –

If you are looking for a book or movie to rip the heart right out from your chest then proceed to stomp on it a few times, then this is for you.

Don’t get me wrong, the uncontrollable crying I did while watching the movie (and wiping my nose with a popcorn butter soaked napkin) did not take away from my love of the characters and storyline. I dare say I loved this movie more then most girls loved the “Notebook”…. That may be sacrilege, but whatever.
Starbucks Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher w/ Coconut milk-

I found this on my new favourite Instagram page “Starbucks Secret Menu”

It is deeeeelllllliiicccciiiioooousssss.

Dairy free (a bonus for you other Lactose sensitive peeps!)
It also has berries in it, which makes you feel semi healthy…..sort of?

Red jumpsuit from Winners– I bought this gem over a year and a half ago from Winners and didn’t have the guts (or the right Spanx) to wear it.

Then push came to shove and I had to have a nice outfit to wear to my bestie’s Wedding Shower this past June. So I sucked it up (and in) and wore it.

Why was I so silly?!?!
I have never had so many compliments on an outfit.

I need to follow my own advice and go outside my comfort zone and wear things I’m not 100% sure on.

And there they all are. My Favourites from the month of June!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that most of these will continue to be favourites for the whole Summer. πŸ˜‰

Till next time folks,

-Nicole xo

P.S. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Canada Day weekend and my American friends have a Happy July 4th holiday tomorrow! ❀

Recent Faves, Raves & Flops

Bonjour!!!

In the last few months of being the worst blogger in the history of bloggers, I have accumulated quite of bit of makeup and new products. Some being awesome finds and others not so awesome finds.
So let’s just jump into the goodies, shall we?!

Faves & Raves

Clinique Beyond Perfection Foundation and Concealer
-While the mission to get this foundation was a pain in my ass( anyone that knows me, knows this story and I will spare everyone else the drama!) when I finally managed to get my hands on it, it did not disappoint!
This foundation has impressive coverage and a nice finish, it doesn’t make my skin break out and the price wasn’t terrible either.
My only issue is the colour selection. I had to buy a shade darker then I normally would because their lack of light shades was limited, so ladies who are more fair then I may have a trickier time finding a matching shade.

Nyx Strobe of Genius Palette
-My local Shoppers drug mart has recently become one of my favourite places. Why? Because it carries all kinds of Nyx makeup now, that’s why!!
This little gem is great for someone who doesn’t want to spend a fortune on highlighters and still get a decent glow.
I mainly dip into the three bottom colours, the top few I wasn’t crazy over, but may work for other skin tones. πŸ™‚

Nyx Contour Palette
– Another steal from the drugstore! I thought I loved my Kat Von D Shade and Light palette till I met this little fella. You receive more colour options in Nyx’s palette and it’s cheaper. I may even like the formula just a smidge more in this one too.

Nyx Liquid Suede Lipsticks
– I am obsessed with these babies. Great colour pay off, long wearing and a fun shade range that would get any makeup junkie excited. So far, I own Stone fox ( a cool dark greyish shade), Amethyst ( a fun, bright purple shade) and Pink Lust ( a perfect summer fuchsia )
Tip: These lippies, like any matte lipstick formula tend to be a little drying, so make sure to moisturize your lips prior to applying them!)

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder
-Love, love, love this for setting my under eye area. It totally reduces the amount of creasing I get with my concealer. It also brightens my oh so lovely dark circles. Thank you Nicole Guerriero for your infinite makeup wisdom and using this on your YouTube Channel and making me go out and buy this (among all kinds of other things).
My wallet hates you though…….

Too Faced Hangover Primer
– Now , I don’t know if it’s this primer or because my Clinique foundation is long lasting, but I really like this stuff and how my makeup looks/lasts. If anything, it moisturizes my face and smells like Pina coladas and who doesn’t want their face smelling so yummy?! πŸ™‚

Graftobian High Definition Color Palette
– In April, I got to have an amazing opportunity and a totally kick ass time doing makeup for Eastlink , during East Coast Music week.
My mom, being the best person she is, bought me this foundation palette. These are highly concentrated colours that range from the fairest fair to the darkest dark. I figured this would be a great opportunity to get some quality things that I could really use in my ever growing kit.
The foundations are great for use for photoshoots and video as they do not give flashback and they are long lasting & high coverage.
The only downfall is they are on the pricier side. Thank god my Momma loves me ❀

Flops

While I don’t have a ton of bad products for this post, I do have one 😦

Hourglass Strobe Powders
– I’m unsure if I’m just not using this correctly, but I don’t think I like it.
I thought for the price and the name, I would be blown away. But, my Nyx highlighters are better and half the price. 😦 So, needless to say I am disappointed. I will continue to use it though and hopefully change my mind. Or it will be lost in the clutter that is my makeup room.

And there you have it. Now go out and buy all kinds of stuff so I don’t feel so alone in my bad shopping habits.

Till next time,

Xoxo Gossip Girl…..

I mean, Nicole πŸ™‚

Brushes on a Budget!

Wedding-Cape-Breton-Photo-Winning-shot-007

Hola!!

Don’t mind me. I’m just practicing my Spanish for when I move to Mexico. I am not meant for cold weather.

Hope everyone on the East coast went out and bought their milk and treats and are tying them selves down for what is supposed to be a dandy of a snow storm 😦

I figured I could write you guys a little something to read while you are all bundled up. And for all you other people out there in warmer temperatures…I hate you…but only a little. πŸ˜‰

Here is yet another post in response to the request I sent out in Facebook land for blog ideas. My friends did not disappoint and I was left with a mass amount of comments, private messages and texts with questions and concerns people have about the beauty world!

One really good question that stood out was about Makeup Brushes, especially affordable ones. I have yet to discuss this topic here on beautyjunkiesanonymous really, other then the odd favorite or two that I have. I’m a slacker!!! Sorry!! 😦

Hopefully I can cover everything tonight πŸ™‚

If there is one thing to know about makeup brushes is….they are kind of important. They are what paint brushes are to an artist! How are you supposed to create like Leonardo Da Vinci or Van Gough with out the right tools.

I’m not saying you need to run out and buy all sorts of brushes and sponges or whatever. But you do need a good core collection that will make putting on your makeup easier and also, better.

These brushes also don’t have to be uber expensive. There are many brands out there that are decent and a decent price as well.

Some examples of brands I like that can be found either online or in your local stores.

Real Techniques– Created by Youtube Beauty Gurus, these can be found at Walmart or drugstores. There are kits and also individually sold brushes. I do believe that the kits are around $20. That’s a steal in my mind!

Real Techniques also came out with a sponge dupe for the pricey Beauty Blender. I have bought a few of these since I discovered them. OBSESSED!!

Sonia Kashuk- I could cry about this one. Since Target Canada is done like dinner, I’m probably going to go out and buy an excess amount of brushes from this brand. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about a Limited Edition Set that was beautiful. The link to my review can be found here —>https://beautyjunkiesanonymous.wordpress.com/2015/01/05/sonia-kashuk-all-that-jazz-limited-edition-brush-set-review/

Fellow Canadians, go out and snatch what you can of these brushes before they are gone. You will not regret it.

American friends, continue being the lucky little shits you are and buy this brand. **Shakes fist in anger and disgust**

-Elf- Another brand that can be found at Target ( Why Lord, why?!?!? 😦 ) These are around 2 or 3 dollars and definitely decent for that price and for just beginning your collection.

-Quo-Β When looking at my ever growing brush collection, I have discovered that I have quite a few brushes from this brand, found at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Quo always comes out with limited edition brush sets. Sometimes they shed, sometimes they don’t. It just depends on the luck of the draw. But, I do like these a lot and believe they are worth it.

-Eco Tools-Β although I do not own any of these in my personal collection, I have used them before on clients. They can be found at Walmart and drugstores. Added bonus to this brand, it is an environmentally conscious company for all you Earth Lovers out there! πŸ™‚

Next are two inexpensive brands I have yet to try but want to eventually. If you watch any Youtube videos or read beauty blogs, you have probably heard of them already.

-Morphe Brushes-Β http://morphebrushes.com/index.php

-Crown Brush-Β http://www.crownbrush.com/

A List of Suggested brushes you should need to create whatever looks you want would be :

– Foundation Brush- whether it is a flat style or Kabuki style(my fave of the two)

-Powder/Bronzer Brush- a Nice fluffy one should do.

-Blush/Contour- there are different variations of these available. I am still searching for the perfect one.

-Eyeliner brush- Your cat eye will become that much better.

-Crease Brush- blend, blend, blend….and repeat.

-Shader Brush/All over shadow brush- self explanatory.

-Pencil brush- for precise shadow application and great to use on the lower lash line

-Eyebrow brush- tame those suckers down.

-Lip Brush- I rarellllyyyyyyyy use one of these on myself (always on clients though), but it is good to use if you find it hard to not get lipstick all over the place.

-Eyelash curler – use before mascara!!

-Sponges- I like using them for concealer. Just a personal preference. You don’t neeeedd to have any.

and there you have it. Affordable Makeup Brushes 101.

Hope that helps and Everyone has a safe and happy Week πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Love,

Nicole xo

P.S. There are many nice expensive brands out there ( I own a few) and they are fabulous too. So if you are interested in any here is a quick list : Mac, Aveda, Sephora, Sigma, TIGI, Stila, Etc.

Sonia Kashuk All That Jazz Limited Edition Brush Set Review

IMG_0209

A little heads up here, this set is no longer in stores, but I will review it anyway just in case you want to buy any of her other brushes out there.

Price- I believe this was $30-40 at Target:/ I bought it with other things and no longer can find the receipt. But it was in that price range.

What it includes – 10 gold and black handled Sonia Kashuk Brushes. Ranging from powder, blending, foundation, eye shadow, lip and brow brushes.

I have used all but two of these..one being the paddle foundation brush I gave to my mother because I never use that type to apply makeup. Just personal preference. The other being the eyebrow brush because I would much rather if it was a “spooly” style one.

My favorites of the bunch would have to be the buffing brush (second from left in picture). I have been using it to apply my foundation lately and I really like how it works. I also really like the short bristle pencil brush (fourth from the right) I used this to apply shadow on the lower lash line and outer v of my eyelid.

For the price, Sonia Kashuk Brushes are pretty dam good. These are not the first I have bought from the line and certainly won’t be the last. There was hardly any shedding of the bristles, which is really nice and well, they are just so darn pretty.

If you need a decent set of makeup brushes, keep you eye out for her next sets or you can just buy them individually wherever you can find her cosmetics!

πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

and there you go. My third post of the evening. I am trying to make up for the lack of posts over the last month!

New Years Makeup!

Its funny what some well applied makeup, different picture angles, a smile and a decent camera (camera man πŸ˜‰ ) will do for you! LOL!

I wanted to take a before and after picture before we went out to celebrate New Years.

I used my Kat Von D mini Studded Lipstick in “Sexer” and I loveeeeeed it! New favorite hot pink!

I also used some Stila Magnificent Metal eye shadows and some glitter from Lit Cosmetics.

This was very much a rush job and I wasn’t 110% satisfied how my eyes came out, but that’s okay! I just wanted to show the difference in my skin. πŸ™‚

If you haven’t fainted from fright from the before picture…thanks! :p haha

Hoping to do more of these in the future if I can get my act together while getting ready!

Christmas Beauty Faves!

Greetings and Happy New Year everyone!!! πŸ™‚

Hope 2015 is off to a great start for everyone (despite the weather today here in Sydney) and that Santa brought you lots of nice goodies for Christmas! πŸ™‚

I had a wonderful time with family and friends and was a tad bit spoiled this year πŸ˜‰ … I finally got an Ipad (thanks Parents!) and I bought myself a nice camera at the crazy Boxing day sales with the Christmas gift cards and money from relatives I received. Soooo that all being said,Β hopefully having both these things means I will try to blog more! This post is far over due!! Sorry!!!!!

For Christmas, I also received quite a few new beauty products!! and I’m going to share a few of them with you bellow πŸ™‚

Too Faced Limited Edition Everything Nice Palette and Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick set.image (65)

First off, Love the packaging for both of these right off the top. Both perfectly cute in their own way.

The Everything Nice pallet comes with a variety of really pretty colour options for eye shadows, some mini makeup brushes, instructions, a few blushes and a bronzer (which smells like chocolate too, fyi πŸ˜‰

photo (10)

It also comes with a pink sparkly makeup bag and a mini “Better Then Sex” mascara. (neither of which I have pictures of because I can not find them at the moment 😦 … I Really need to go through my Christmas goodies and put them away/organize!)

I received this bad boy from my awesome bf….who braved Sephora all by himself one day and found this! He’s a good boy.

The Kat Von D Lipsticks are definitely some of my favorite formulations in lipsticks. I already have one full size lipstick that I bought back in the fall in the colour “Love Craft” Β and when I heard they were coming out with a set, I asked my lovely mother for this on my “Sephora wish list’…

This set comes with 9 different shades ranging from nude to red to purple.

image (66)

The size of these are so cute it hurts. Only problem is, I’m afraid I will use them up too quickly or lose them. Both are very possible….. Where do all my lost lipsticks go anyway? Probably where all the lost bobby pins, earrings and matching socks go 😦 …RIP

Lush Curly Wurly Coconut Shampoo

I have bought Lush skin care products before and I loved them. So it was a pleasant surprise to receive this as part of my gift from my sister.

image (63)

I hardly wear my hair straight anymore and love any products that help enhance any waves in my hair. This stuff smells good enough to eat and I was actually surprised how good my hair felt after using it. Two thumbs up for this one Sis! Thanks! πŸ™‚

Miscellaneous

I was given various other beauty products such as a small Sephora eye shadow pallet, some Aveda shampoo, nail polish,a pretty Lord and Taylor personal manicure kit,Β more Dulce and Gabana Light Blue perfume (Love in a bottle!! take my word!!!) , Bath and Body works soaps (one can never have enough), Joe Fresh Lip gloss, more Sephora Sheet masks (love these!) and various other little things.

I was blessed with people who know and understand that all they need to get me is anything beauty related and I will be happy. πŸ™‚

Hope you all have a great Sunday evening… I know I sure will. Stephen bought the full series of “Alf” from Amazon…and that’s all I plan on doing when he gets home!!! and maybe all I’ll do tomorrow (don’t judge me!)..if this yucky weather continues.

Cheers!!

-Nicole xo πŸ™‚
