Recent Beauty Faves & Purchases

Hey all!

Sorry for being M.I.A lately.

Time some how managed to slip by and I have accumulated a ton of new goodies in the past few months.  πŸ™‚

While I was away, I ended up hitting an all time beauty high (or low if you are my wallet) and reached “VIB Rouge” status at Sephora 😐

So rather then ramble on, lets just get into the good stuff that you came here to read about!

Face

Pur Miracle Mist –  This is my second bottle of this little mist. Smells like oranges and is so refreshing and hydrating. I generally wear it under my primer/makeup or by itself on no makeup days.

Aveda Tulasara Wedding Eye Mask- while I haven’t had this product for very long, I loveeeeee it already.  Super rich, super hydrating but not heavy feeling, this mask helps brighten and tighten your eye area. Seeing as I am two years ago from the big 3-0… I figured I better start looking after my skin more and do some more preventative work.

First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer-  I recently purchased this little gem with giftcards I  received for Christmas. I am obsessed with the scent. It smells like Pina Coladas! ( and who doesn’t love that?!) It also appears to be helping my makeup last longer and look smoother.

Touch in Sol Feel like Honey Moon Skin Base-  I don’t know know why but lately I have been on a makeup primer and foundation buying spree. I am constantly on the lookout for the best hydrating and brightening primers and this is definitely a great one.

Lise Watier Magic Fix-  Refreshing scent and light mist make this a great makeup setting spray. It helps  any of my makeup from looking too “powdery” .

Urbay Decay All Nighter Foundation- this foundation claims to be full coverage and longwearing/waterproof and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. I loved wearing this to stand in my best friends wedding. It photpgraphs well and doesn’t budge, even after dancing all night! πŸ™‚

Josie Maran Vibrancy Foundation- While I did buy this almost a year ago, I don’t feel like I have talked about it much. This foundation is beautiful especially on someone with dryer skin (which mine has been as of recently)  It gives just enough glow to the skin without looking greasy or too shiney.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation and Concealer- another Christmas giftcard purchase. I have to say, I like the foundation, but I definitely didn’t pick the right shade and perhaps I will like it better in the summer when I’m more sunkissed rather then Snow White 😦

Saying that, the concealer is just the right shade of pasty white and is lighweight enough to not crease but enough  coverage to hide my raccoon eyes.

Kat Von D Lock it Cream Concealer- in comparison to the Tarte concealer, this stuff is heavy duty. I haven’t tried to cover any tattoos, but I would say it would do a great job in a pinch. I do like this product, however if you have a lot of fine lines or dehydrated undereyes, I would not recommend this.

Blissful Beauty Mineral Makeup Highlighter in Champagne- if you live on the East coast, I suggest you try out this local gal’s products. I have her foundations, lipglosses, blushes, bronzers and now highlighters.

Im a sucker for anything glowy. These powders are beautiful and give a natural but noticeable glow to the skin. They are paraben free, hypoallergenic and perfect for anyone looking to support local businesses! Thanks Amanda!!! ❀️
Benefit Rockteaur Box Blush- I forgot to take a picture of this (Sorry!!) While I am not a huge   blush lover and it is probably my least bought type of beauty product, Benefit’s products never disappoint me and this rose gold blush is very wearable and pretty and the packaging can some what be seem above in the first picture on this post.

Cèlavi Oval Brushes- Let us take a minute to admire this amazing Winners find. While I have never heard of this brand, I have seen a lot of reviews on this type of brush. So far, I have fallen in love with the foundation and concealer brushes. Not entirely sure how to use a few of the eye brushes, but Im sure I will get the hang of it sooner then later.
Eyes

Benefit Browvo Conditioning Primer- I truly don’t know if this has helped my brows grow a bit more or it’s because I’m a hairy beast, but this stuff is great at prepping my brows for any other brow products whether it pencil or powder.

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil- by far my favourite brow pencil I have ever tried to date. Currently using up my second one of these bad boys. With a thicker, slanted pencil side and spooly on the other end, this does in fact make filling in your brows “goof proof” .

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Rose Gold-  What a mouth full for a product name. Beautiful, pigmented and shimmery. Just a few words to describe this shadow. While kind of on the pricier side for an individual shadow ($24) this is definitely worth the money. Another product that stood the test of time and sweat on the dancefloor of while standing all day in a wedding.

Mac Nutcracker Pigment Christmas Set- So sparkly, so pretty, such cute packaging. My brother and sister hit the nail on the head with this gift. I have always loved Mac’s loose pigments and this kit is no exception. They can be used wet or dry to suit whatever type of look you are going for.

Kiss Looks So Natural “Flirty” lashes- these lashes are very light weight and wispy. I love how these looked when I wore them to a recent Brad Paisley Concert. I will be willing to bet, I will be repurchasing these lashes for wedding parties and brides this summer.

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics- This All matte, all pigmented palette is by far my favourite Naked palette from Urban Decay. There are 12 shades in a beautiful rose gold package. It also comes with a double ended brush and a huge mirror which are always nice bonuses.  I “basically” wear this pallete every day and it has quickly become one of my all time favourite products ever. Period.

Lips

Stila Stay All Day Mattieficent Lipstick in “Coquille”- a taupe nude shade is my go to colour for any look. Whether dramatic or natural. This lipstick stays put on your lips and isn’t as drying as a liquid lipstick formula. It also comes in a variety of other pretty and wearable shades to suit anyone.

Bite Beauty Gold Creme LipGloss- while I understand Gold lips aren’t for everyone, I love the look of this gloss.

I could be wrong, but I do believe this was a limited edition shade but if you have a chance to try any of Bite Beauty’s Creme glosses, check em out!

And if you have made it this far, give yourself a pat on the back for getting through all my talking.

I seriously need to go on a makeup buying break/hibernation  πŸ˜¦ I feel I have accumulated enough to get me through the winter and to keep my makeup bag full and happy till spring!

(I don’t know if I’m kidding myself or not, guess time will tell… Or if I win the lottery hahahah)

To anyone living in the maritimes region reading this, stay safe with this crazy blizzard that is pounding us currently and to anyone traveling down south, I hate you. Jk…. Sort of.

Till next time folks,

Love always,

-Nicole πŸ™‚

Brushes on a Budget!

Wedding-Cape-Breton-Photo-Winning-shot-007

Hola!!

Don’t mind me. I’m just practicing my Spanish for when I move to Mexico. I am not meant for cold weather.

Hope everyone on the East coast went out and bought their milk and treats and are tying them selves down for what is supposed to be a dandy of a snow storm 😦

I figured I could write you guys a little something to read while you are all bundled up. And for all you other people out there in warmer temperatures…I hate you…but only a little. πŸ˜‰

Here is yet another post in response to the request I sent out in Facebook land for blog ideas. My friends did not disappoint and I was left with a mass amount of comments, private messages and texts with questions and concerns people have about the beauty world!

One really good question that stood out was about Makeup Brushes, especially affordable ones. I have yet to discuss this topic here on beautyjunkiesanonymous really, other then the odd favorite or two that I have. I’m a slacker!!! Sorry!! 😦

Hopefully I can cover everything tonight πŸ™‚

If there is one thing to know about makeup brushes is….they are kind of important. They are what paint brushes are to an artist! How are you supposed to create like Leonardo Da Vinci or Van Gough with out the right tools.

I’m not saying you need to run out and buy all sorts of brushes and sponges or whatever. But you do need a good core collection that will make putting on your makeup easier and also, better.

These brushes also don’t have to be uber expensive. There are many brands out there that are decent and a decent price as well.

Some examples of brands I like that can be found either online or in your local stores.

Real Techniques– Created by Youtube Beauty Gurus, these can be found at Walmart or drugstores. There are kits and also individually sold brushes. I do believe that the kits are around $20. That’s a steal in my mind!

Real Techniques also came out with a sponge dupe for the pricey Beauty Blender. I have bought a few of these since I discovered them. OBSESSED!!

Sonia Kashuk- I could cry about this one. Since Target Canada is done like dinner, I’m probably going to go out and buy an excess amount of brushes from this brand. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about a Limited Edition Set that was beautiful. The link to my review can be found here —>https://beautyjunkiesanonymous.wordpress.com/2015/01/05/sonia-kashuk-all-that-jazz-limited-edition-brush-set-review/

Fellow Canadians, go out and snatch what you can of these brushes before they are gone. You will not regret it.

American friends, continue being the lucky little shits you are and buy this brand. **Shakes fist in anger and disgust**

-Elf- Another brand that can be found at Target ( Why Lord, why?!?!? 😦 ) These are around 2 or 3 dollars and definitely decent for that price and for just beginning your collection.

-Quo-Β When looking at my ever growing brush collection, I have discovered that I have quite a few brushes from this brand, found at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Quo always comes out with limited edition brush sets. Sometimes they shed, sometimes they don’t. It just depends on the luck of the draw. But, I do like these a lot and believe they are worth it.

-Eco Tools-Β although I do not own any of these in my personal collection, I have used them before on clients. They can be found at Walmart and drugstores. Added bonus to this brand, it is an environmentally conscious company for all you Earth Lovers out there! πŸ™‚

Next are two inexpensive brands I have yet to try but want to eventually. If you watch any Youtube videos or read beauty blogs, you have probably heard of them already.

-Morphe Brushes-Β http://morphebrushes.com/index.php

-Crown Brush-Β http://www.crownbrush.com/

A List of Suggested brushes you should need to create whatever looks you want would be :

– Foundation Brush- whether it is a flat style or Kabuki style(my fave of the two)

-Powder/Bronzer Brush- a Nice fluffy one should do.

-Blush/Contour- there are different variations of these available. I am still searching for the perfect one.

-Eyeliner brush- Your cat eye will become that much better.

-Crease Brush- blend, blend, blend….and repeat.

-Shader Brush/All over shadow brush- self explanatory.

-Pencil brush- for precise shadow application and great to use on the lower lash line

-Eyebrow brush- tame those suckers down.

-Lip Brush- I rarellllyyyyyyyy use one of these on myself (always on clients though), but it is good to use if you find it hard to not get lipstick all over the place.

-Eyelash curler – use before mascara!!

-Sponges- I like using them for concealer. Just a personal preference. You don’t neeeedd to have any.

and there you have it. Affordable Makeup Brushes 101.

Hope that helps and Everyone has a safe and happy Week πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Love,

Nicole xo

Sonia Kashuk All That Jazz Limited Edition Brush Set Review

IMG_0209

A little heads up here, this set is no longer in stores, but I will review it anyway just in case you want to buy any of her other brushes out there.

Price- I believe this was $30-40 at Target:/ I bought it with other things and no longer can find the receipt. But it was in that price range.

What it includes – 10 gold and black handled Sonia Kashuk Brushes. Ranging from powder, blending, foundation, eye shadow, lip and brow brushes.

I have used all but two of these..one being the paddle foundation brush I gave to my mother because I never use that type to apply makeup. Just personal preference. The other being the eyebrow brush because I would much rather if it was a “spooly” style one.

My favorites of the bunch would have to be the buffing brush (second from left in picture). I have been using it to apply my foundation lately and I really like how it works. I also really like the short bristle pencil brush (fourth from the right) I used this to apply shadow on the lower lash line and outer v of my eyelid.

For the price, Sonia Kashuk Brushes are pretty dam good. These are not the first I have bought from the line and certainly won’t be the last. There was hardly any shedding of the bristles, which is really nice and well, they are just so darn pretty.

If you need a decent set of makeup brushes, keep you eye out for her next sets or you can just buy them individually wherever you can find her cosmetics!

πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

and there you go. My third post of the evening. I am trying to make up for the lack of posts over the last month!
