Recent Beauty Faves & Purchases

Hey all!

Sorry for being M.I.A lately.

Time some how managed to slip by and I have accumulated a ton of new goodies in the past few months.  🙂

While I was away, I ended up hitting an all time beauty high (or low if you are my wallet) and reached “VIB Rouge” status at Sephora 😐

So rather then ramble on, lets just get into the good stuff that you came here to read about!

Face

Pur Miracle Mist –  This is my second bottle of this little mist. Smells like oranges and is so refreshing and hydrating. I generally wear it under my primer/makeup or by itself on no makeup days.

Aveda Tulasara Wedding Eye Mask- while I haven’t had this product for very long, I loveeeeee it already.  Super rich, super hydrating but not heavy feeling, this mask helps brighten and tighten your eye area. Seeing as I am two years ago from the big 3-0… I figured I better start looking after my skin more and do some more preventative work.

First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer-  I recently purchased this little gem with giftcards I  received for Christmas. I am obsessed with the scent. It smells like Pina Coladas! ( and who doesn’t love that?!) It also appears to be helping my makeup last longer and look smoother.

Touch in Sol Feel like Honey Moon Skin Base-  I don’t know know why but lately I have been on a makeup primer and foundation buying spree. I am constantly on the lookout for the best hydrating and brightening primers and this is definitely a great one.

Lise Watier Magic Fix-  Refreshing scent and light mist make this a great makeup setting spray. It helps  any of my makeup from looking too “powdery” .

Urbay Decay All Nighter Foundation- this foundation claims to be full coverage and longwearing/waterproof and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. I loved wearing this to stand in my best friends wedding. It photpgraphs well and doesn’t budge, even after dancing all night! 🙂

Josie Maran Vibrancy Foundation- While I did buy this almost a year ago, I don’t feel like I have talked about it much. This foundation is beautiful especially on someone with dryer skin (which mine has been as of recently)  It gives just enough glow to the skin without looking greasy or too shiney.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation and Concealer- another Christmas giftcard purchase. I have to say, I like the foundation, but I definitely didn’t pick the right shade and perhaps I will like it better in the summer when I’m more sunkissed rather then Snow White 😦

Saying that, the concealer is just the right shade of pasty white and is lighweight enough to not crease but enough  coverage to hide my raccoon eyes.

Kat Von D Lock it Cream Concealer- in comparison to the Tarte concealer, this stuff is heavy duty. I haven’t tried to cover any tattoos, but I would say it would do a great job in a pinch. I do like this product, however if you have a lot of fine lines or dehydrated undereyes, I would not recommend this.

Blissful Beauty Mineral Makeup Highlighter in Champagne- if you live on the East coast, I suggest you try out this local gal’s products. I have her foundations, lipglosses, blushes, bronzers and now highlighters.

Im a sucker for anything glowy. These powders are beautiful and give a natural but noticeable glow to the skin. They are paraben free, hypoallergenic and perfect for anyone looking to support local businesses! Thanks Amanda!!! ❤️
Benefit Rockteaur Box Blush- I forgot to take a picture of this (Sorry!!) While I am not a huge   blush lover and it is probably my least bought type of beauty product, Benefit’s products never disappoint me and this rose gold blush is very wearable and pretty and the packaging can some what be seem above in the first picture on this post.

Cèlavi Oval Brushes- Let us take a minute to admire this amazing Winners find. While I have never heard of this brand, I have seen a lot of reviews on this type of brush. So far, I have fallen in love with the foundation and concealer brushes. Not entirely sure how to use a few of the eye brushes, but Im sure I will get the hang of it sooner then later.
Eyes

Benefit Browvo Conditioning Primer- I truly don’t know if this has helped my brows grow a bit more or it’s because I’m a hairy beast, but this stuff is great at prepping my brows for any other brow products whether it pencil or powder.

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil- by far my favourite brow pencil I have ever tried to date. Currently using up my second one of these bad boys. With a thicker, slanted pencil side and spooly on the other end, this does in fact make filling in your brows “goof proof” .

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Rose Gold-  What a mouth full for a product name. Beautiful, pigmented and shimmery. Just a few words to describe this shadow. While kind of on the pricier side for an individual shadow ($24) this is definitely worth the money. Another product that stood the test of time and sweat on the dancefloor of while standing all day in a wedding.

Mac Nutcracker Pigment Christmas Set- So sparkly, so pretty, such cute packaging. My brother and sister hit the nail on the head with this gift. I have always loved Mac’s loose pigments and this kit is no exception. They can be used wet or dry to suit whatever type of look you are going for.

Kiss Looks So Natural “Flirty” lashes- these lashes are very light weight and wispy. I love how these looked when I wore them to a recent Brad Paisley Concert. I will be willing to bet, I will be repurchasing these lashes for wedding parties and brides this summer.

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics- This All matte, all pigmented palette is by far my favourite Naked palette from Urban Decay. There are 12 shades in a beautiful rose gold package. It also comes with a double ended brush and a huge mirror which are always nice bonuses.  I “basically” wear this pallete every day and it has quickly become one of my all time favourite products ever. Period.

Lips

Stila Stay All Day Mattieficent Lipstick in “Coquille”- a taupe nude shade is my go to colour for any look. Whether dramatic or natural. This lipstick stays put on your lips and isn’t as drying as a liquid lipstick formula. It also comes in a variety of other pretty and wearable shades to suit anyone.

Bite Beauty Gold Creme LipGloss- while I understand Gold lips aren’t for everyone, I love the look of this gloss.

I could be wrong, but I do believe this was a limited edition shade but if you have a chance to try any of Bite Beauty’s Creme glosses, check em out!

And if you have made it this far, give yourself a pat on the back for getting through all my talking.

I seriously need to go on a makeup buying break/hibernation  😦 I feel I have accumulated enough to get me through the winter and to keep my makeup bag full and happy till spring!

(I don’t know if I’m kidding myself or not, guess time will tell… Or if I win the lottery hahahah)

To anyone living in the maritimes region reading this, stay safe with this crazy blizzard that is pounding us currently and to anyone traveling down south, I hate you. Jk…. Sort of.

Till next time folks,

Love always,

-Nicole 🙂

Contouring & Highlighting for Dummies

(For the record, I am one of those dummies.)

Contouring and highlighting is something I have yet to completely master. However , I have been asked to write a post on the topic and I am going to try my darnedest to give you all the information I’ve got.
Contouring is one of those things that if it’s done right, it makes a person’s face look sculpted, proportional and symmetrical.

If it’s done wrong, one can look like a muddy, blotchy mess. This has happened many of times to me. I usually don’t realize this till I see myself in a picture after going all day thinking I look like the bomb.com!! Soo, sooo wrong 😦
The tricks are to find the right products and tools to help you achieve those nice high cheek bones, small forehead, tiny nose and strong jaw line.

And also to understand the basics of shadows(contouring) and light(highlighting).

If you want to disguise or make something look smaller or more sunken in, you contour (add shadows/dark colour) .
If you want to bring out something and put emphasis on it, you highlight. (Add brightness/light colours)
Pretty simple right?
If you understand this concept, you can contour and highlight your face. It just takes practise to make it look perfect!
Since these techniques have become more common and more mainstream, a lot of companies have developed products for the everyday woman.
There are powder and cream options. It’s just personal preference on what you would like to use.

I prefer to use creams first and then setting them with powders in similar shades. Double the work but double the pay off!!!! 🙂

Recent favourites I have been reaching for are:
Cream – Stila Contouring kit, Maybelline Foundation Stick in Coconut, Maybelline Better Skin Concealers ( in fair or light)
Powder- Kat Von D Shade and Light pallet , NYX Taupe Blush( yes, a blush!) The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer, Too Faced Chocolate Soliel Bronzer. Besame vanilla brightening powder, The Balm Betty Lou Luminizer highlight powder and Mac’s soft and gentle.

Contouring and highlighting can be tricky because everyone’s face shapes are not all alike. I have an oval face. Meaning, it is more long then it is wide. I have deep dark undereye circles and I’m not a fan of my nose. The above  picture is generally how I cream contour. I apply my primer, foundation then my darker contour shades and light concealers.

Once you figure out what placement of colours works best for you, the next step is Key;

BLEND, BLEND, and BLEND Some more! When you think you are done blending, blend it again!  Whether you use brushes or sponges, it’s up to you! I really like Stila’s double ended contour brush and Real Techniques Beauty blender sponge. I also use a Mac contour brush I have had for years and the # has worn off 😦

face shapes and a general guide to contouring

I hope this helps anyone that is nervous or someone who is not clear on how contouring and highlight works. I could ramble on and on with this topic, but I’ll spare you the torture and tell you to go to YouTube and watch tutorials on it. That is how I was taught. Practise makes perfect with this, so try it out. 🙂

Review: Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick

Ummmm So who doesn’t love a long lasting, super pigmented lipstick that comes in a wide variety of shades? If you said, “Nahhh….I love it when my lipstick wears off instantly and smears all over my face” ….then clearly this little post is not for you….Carry on.

This past month, I will let you in on a little secret. I discovered the holy grail of lipsticks; Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick.

I purchased mine at my local Shoppers Drug Mart on a whim while Christmas shopping for others….

“One for me! One for you!!!” (Isn’t that how everyone shops?!….What’s that? No? Oh well, ignore my little shopping motto then :/)

The first colour I decided to try out was “Aria” which is described as a Magenta Plum colour. Believe what you may, but I seriously don’t think I own any colour like this in my steadily growing lippie collection. I feel this shade would work well with many different skin tones and could work as a good Autumn/Winter colour or even Spring/Summer.

image (60)

After the first time I wore this out and had it last through eating a massive deli sandwich, I knew this was my kind of lipstick. The finish is matte but not drying like other products out there that suck the life and moisture out of your poor lips!  ( Step up your game, MAC!!!! Jesus!! ) The application was easy and it was very pigmented even with the first swipe of colour. You don’t even really need to use a lip liner if you are neat while applying it.

So naturally after the success of the first colour, I wanted more! So I went back and purchased “Fiery’ , which is described as a Deep Red shade. I always seem to gravitate and feel most comfortable in red lipstick, so I thought why not add another to my stock pile!

Again, this did not disappoint. It actually may have replaced my Mac Ruby woo, as the top Red in my books. You best believe I will be wearing this a lot this Holiday season. 🙂

image (59)

The One and only downfall to these bad boys…Is the price. They are almost $30 a pop. :/ So definitely a more pricey/high end product. I would recommend swatching and testing colours before actually buying one. That way you know how the texture feels and how the colour looks on you. There is nothing worse then getting home with something and having it look awful and not be able to return it.

As far as I know, the only places you can buy these is on Sephora.com or at Shoppers Drug Mart (if you live where I live, there aren’t many options of places to buy things like this.)

Some other colours that I would like to try and have heard that are popular are “Patina” which is a dusty rose shade( Kylie Jenner lips!!!!!) and “Fiore” which is a hot pink colour.

If anyone out there has other suggestions for colours from this line that would be nice to try, let me know! 🙂

So there you have it, a quick little review on one of my favorite products of the moment!

Good Night! 🙂

-Nicole xo

PS- 2 weeks to Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

November Faves, Raves and Flops :)

Hello There Beauty Peeps!

Over the last month or more, I have acquired quite a few new things. I don’t know if the stores knew I was out trying to do some Christmas shopping for others and wanted to tempt me with all their new and pretty things or what the heck the deal was!! 😦 …. but anyways, I caved. Hard.

I know it isn`t Decemeber just yet but I figured I would do a November Faves, Raves and Flops. November brought many new favorites and a few not so great products. If you are on the fence about purchasing any of these things then hopefully this will help you make up your mind 🙂 (some of these Faves would also make great Christmas ideas too FYI 😉 )

FAVES & RAVES

Minion Slippers –  Yup. you read that right.  One of my favorite things from the last month is a pair of awesome slippers. Found at Walmart for about $15. They are warm (perfect for this time of year) and they are Minions with googly button eyes….enough said!

image (52)

(ignore ugly joggy pants…)

Coffee Mug-    Second favorite of the month is something I found at The Ugly Mug Cafe and Gift Emporium. It was just there on the counter screaming  my name “ Buy meeeeee Nicole….buy meeeeee…“ . So I bought that little mug for a little laugh every time I have my coffee. For                 anyone who knows me, I love my caffeine fix in the morning ( and mid morning and lunch time and mid afternoon and supper, you get the idea…)

image (53)

Target Booties- Thank you Target Gods for letting me find plain black, heeled booties that I can wear to work. They  don`t make me want to chop my own feet off by the end of my day, which is a huge bonus. Thank you Mom for buying them for me too 🙂 $30 is a pretty good steal if you ask me.

image (55)

NYX HD concealer- My Target recently decided to bring in the entire line of NYX ( **does happy dance!**) This concealer is light enough that it doesn`t crease too much but heavy enough that it covers your under eye circles pretty well. I bought the fairest shade because I am extra Snow white looking lately ( I`m learning to embrace it)

hd

NYX Powder Blush in Taupe-  I recently noticed that a few Youtube Guru`s I watch religiously were using a blush to contour…..So I was intrigued and decided to buy it. It did not disappoint!!! Because of my extra whiteness lately, most bronzers are either too orange or too dark to use as contour for my cheeks and face. This stuff works like a charm though. Just the right grey, beige colour that gives dimension and shadow to my face. I think this was under $10. Two big thumbs up for NYX!

nyxtaupe

NYX Matte Bronzer in Medium- Its very hard to find a good drugstore bronzer with out any shimmer. So this is a great option. It has even replaced my two Too Faced bronzers that I was using all spring and summer long. I believe this was around $10 and comes in two other colour options.

NXMBB_F-500x500

NYX Wicked Dreams Shadow Pallet- Mattes, shimmers, neutrals and a few different coloured shadows make up this little beauty. I believe it retails for $17. Perfect stocking stuffer!

0014-1024x477

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance Bronze- I received this baby as one of my points perks from Sephora Months and months ago…I had no desire to try it and thought it would be way too dark for me. When I ran out of my usual primer, I had no choice but to try this out and I am obsessed!!!!!  It gives a beautiful glow to your skin and doesn`t feel too heavy. I wish I had of started using this forever ago! I need to get the full size version asap!! *hint! hint! Stephen*…..he pretends he doesn`t read my blogs, but we all know he does. 😉

laura mericer

NYX The Curve Liner- I suckkkkkk at winged Liner. It is one of those things that I am constantly trying new things to make me better at it. This liner is one of the best I have ever used. The shape of the bottle is so unique and user friendly. The tip is super thin and you can make your line as precise as you want it. I need to stock up on these bad boys.

Review-items-091

Rimmel Lash Accelerator-  God love that Nicole Guerriero. She knows her stuff. One of her holy grail mascaras is this little one.  Super affordable and works great on bottom lashes.

download

Stila #33 Brush- This is a double ended foundation and concealer brush. A bit pricier and more of an impulse/boredom buy. It is very nice though. It is pointed on both ends so it is perfect for the under eye area and hard to blend spots. I found mine at our local Shoppers and use mine with my NYX Hd concealer I mentioned previously.

s1277482-main-hero-300

Flower Beauty F01 Powder Brush- Our Walmart just recently started carrying Drew Barrymore`s makeup line. I was a little excited ( I love Drew!) This brush was inexpensive and the packaging  looked pretty. Turns out it does a pretty good job applying powder and bronzer. It`s bristles are very soft and I haven`t had them shed too much like other drugstore brand brushes. YEY! Drew for the win!!! 🙂

image (56)

Target Necklace- I`m sorry I forget the actual brand of this necklace 😦 ….but It has definitely become one of my favorite in my embarrassing large costume jewelry collection though. I`m usually more of a gold person but this one is just so shiny and fancy. Retails for under $20.

image (57)

FLOPS 😦

Gosh Smokey eye shadow pallet- For $30…this was less then impressive. I have never tried any Gosh makeup products before and I can see why now. The colours looked decent at first glance, but there is a lot of fall out with these. (meaning the colour/shadow falls down on to your cheeks) SO not cool. They are also not as pigmented as I had hoped. Overall-Fail 😦

image (54)

Fekkai Hair Fragrance Mist- Three mini scented hair sprays. Rose, Citrus and Vanilla. They smelt nice at first, but they don`t last as long as I had hoped 😦

A11WRxuz3NL._SX425_

Flower Luxury Lip Colour in Tea Rose-  Didn`t like this shade and it defiantly smelt and tasted kind of funky (almost plastic like) Not a good flavor for something that goes on your lips

MOTD/FOTD

Here is a pretty boring entry on today’s Makeup of the day.(Just In case anyone is wondering what I wear on a regular, everyday basis, this is pretty well it! (Plus or minus a few other things) The majority of the products are drugstore and the odd high end product.

I had a pretty easy going Sunday today…spent some time in Target(SHOCKER!!!) then watched some hockey games(Go Tradesmen!)  and went out to dinner at my parents for our usual Sunday get together. Roast Beef(Yuck!) and Blueberry Crumble(Yum!!)

Outfit– As casual as it gets for me. Black Puma Tights, Under Armour Tee, Lulu Lemon Hoodie(embarrassingly enough, the only hoodie I own) and white H&M sneakers…Also threw in a lulu headband because I was feeling extra fancy and my hair was feeling extra gross and today was not a good “hair wash” sort of day, but seriously, when is it ever!

Anywho, Lets jump in to the makeup details.

SKIN

1)  Primed with Loreal’s Revitalift Miracle Blur (Oil-Free Version) I hated primers till I tried this one out!

2) Concealed my bags and circles with Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in the Shade Neutralizer (Holy Grail!!)

3) Covered with Stila Stay all Day HD Beauty Balm. Talked about this product in my Summer Faves and Raves.

4) Camouflaged my one teeny tiny breakout( Yey for good skin lately!) with The Balm’s Time Bomb concealer in light/medium…I have had this stuff for forever….I literally use the tiniest bit and it covers fairly well.

5)Set my whole faces with Rimmel’s Stay Matte pressed powder in 003 Natural!

6) Bronzed all over with Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer.

7) For Blush I mixed a combo of Makeup Geeks new blush in Honey Moon (LOVE!) and Aveda’s limited edition face accent in Hibiscus!

8) Cheek Highlight and inner tear duct was compliments of Mac’s Mineralized Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle (cult classic!)

EYES

1) Prepped with NYX jumbo pencil in Milk. Not a necessary step, but I feel when I wear light or no eye shadow, it covers the redness and veins on my eyelids.

2) The One and only shadow used was “Strange” from my Naked 3 palette

3) Lined Just my outer lids in a black pencil by Essence. Super affordable and one of the few pencils that doesn’t smear all over my lids.

4) Of course, curled my lashes with my handy dandy lash curler…which is ancient and I have no idea where it came from.

5) Three-ish coats of Hypnose Star Mascara in Black (also another summer fave! 🙂 )

6) Brows were brought to you today by “Brow Bar to Go” by Whitening Lightning.

LIPS

1)  Rimmel East End Snob Lip Liner…somewhat of a nude-pink shade.

2) Last but not least, I applied Mac’s Cream Cup Lipstick 🙂

THE END

and for those who managed to not nod off while reading this, Thanks!

I sometimes find myself lacking inspiration for posts lately. I WANT to write on a more regular basis, and have a list of topics to talk about, but I’m not sure if they would bore readers half to death. So what I am trying to say is, I am more then open to suggestions! Let a girl know, folks!!!!

Summer Fave, Raves and Flops

Sadly, summer is quickly coming to an end. All the munchkins will be back to school next week , the majority of the wedding parties are over and although the weather here is supposed to be nice for the next little while, I’m kind of looking forward to Fall. (don’t hate!!!)…. I’m mainly excited for the fall makeup and clothing trends to start!!:)

Over the past few months I have accumulated a few new products that I either fell madly in love with ( and hope you will too) orrrrrr I found products that I simply wanted to throw in the garbage.

Faves and Raves

Makeup:

Occ Lip Tars– Amazing pigmentation and staying power. These little babies are great! They come in all sorts of fun colors and different finishes. I bought “Hoochie” in the regular size then bought a mini set of 3 in “Pris” “Trollop” and then a primer (which I can’t seem to locate at the moment 😦 . The mini lip brush they come with  and tube applicator make this product easy to mix with each other to make new colors. I plan on getting more on my next Sephora visit. I believe they run around $20?? and will probably last forever because you only need the tiniest amount for full coverage. http://www.sephora.com/obsessive-compulsive-cosmetics

hoochie_new_packaging_square_grande

Color Your Smile Lip Gloss from Whitening Lightning in Nude and the Brow Bar to Go in Dark Brown– I’ve seen these used by many Youtubers in the past and when Stephen said I could use his CC to buy whatever I wanted online for my birthday (poor judgement call bf lol) , First I said I wanted a puppy!!!! and after slight whining, I later settled on the next best thing, MAKEUP! (Duh!!!) . The lip gloss is decent. Just your regular ol nude gloss. The packaging has a little light built into the cap which is useful and a tiny mirror on the side. The Brow Bar is definitely worth the hype. It comes with two shades of dark brown, a brow wax and a little brush. Lately I have been reaching for this more then any other brow product I own. Its just so easy and foolproof to use and the color suits me perfectly!  Here is this the link to the site if you are interested http://www.gerardcosmetics.com/

Nudebrow-bar-to-go-both1

Makeup Geek Shadows and Z-pallete– another part of my birthday makeup haul. I received 5 shadows. Cupcake, Crème Brulee, Shimma Shimma, Peach Smoothie and Cinderella. Not only are the names super cute, the colors are very pretty. The color payoff is pretty good and like that they already have magnets to stick in the z-pallete. I will definitely be buying more of these to fill up the pallete, which I might add is a great idea to buy if you travel a lot. These pallets come in all different colors, prints and sizes. I ordered the medium hot pink one. They also send a bunch a magnets if you are depotting your own products to put in it. You just pick which shadows or blushes or powders you want and pop them in and go. This way you don’t have to drag 50 different things around if you are going anywhere. http://www.makeupgeek.com/store/   ZPallettes Link

large-closed-empty_3

Younique 3D fiber Mascara– I wrote a review on this a little while back. If I could be in love with a product, this would be it. https://beautyjunkiesanonymous.wordpress.com/2014/07/09/younique-3d-mascara-worth-the-hype/

US-1017-00

Maybelline The Nudes– I searched high and low for this little sucker. For a while, it was sold out or not even put on the shelves yet. I even embarrassingly called a few drugstores and department stores. I finally got my hands on it at Wal-Mart, did a little dance and then proceeded to the check out like a normal human being. This a really great palette for anyone that just wants an everyday look or even a smokey neutral look. Plus, It was only 12 dollars!!! So very affordable, especially if you don’t want to fork out the cash for one of the Urban Decay naked palettes (which I own and love, but one can never have too many neutral colored shadows!!!)

NUDES-Expert%20Wear%20Pallette-Pack

Lancôme Hypnose Star Mascara– I Was always too cheap to buy anything Lancôme till sweet little Lucy (hey girl! 😉 ) gave me the heads up about a sale going on at Shoppers. So naturally, I stopped what I was doing and went and bought two!! They were only $15 each when one is regularly $30 plus I think? I use this everyday and this is what I layer under my Younique Mascara as a base….the two combined= lash heaven!!!!

hypnose

Essence Beach Cruiser Waterproof Liquid Liner in Keep Calm and Go to the Beach (Turquoise) and Sun, Fun and Copper (Coppery Gold) – I think these were like $2 or something ridiculously cheap at Shoppers. They were a last minute find at the checkout. I don’t know about how “waterproof” these actually are, but the colors are very pretty and surprisingly pigmented.

beachcruiseer

Stila Stay all Day 10 in 1 HD beauty Balm– Another Shopper’s sale find! I managed to get this for half off ($15). I either use this alone during the day or under another foundation at night. It does have a different consistency and smell, but I do love the way it looks on the skin and it doesn’t make me break out, so that is always a positive!!!

stila

L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Foundation in Creamy Natural– Again, another Youtube suggestion. Very light coverage, leaves your skin a bit “glowy” and “dewy”… very affordable and can be found at any Wal-Mart, Shoppers, Target, etc.

Cos34o_6_pack-shot

Sephora Bronzed and Blushing Palette– This comes with a pink and coral blush and one bronzer. I have been using this basically every day and still haven’t put a dent in it! Not overly thrilled with the bronzer part of this, but the colors of the blush are very nice and very summery!  http://www.sephora.com/product/productDetail.jsp?keyword=SEPHORA%20COLLECTION%20Bronzed%20And%20Blushing%20Face%20Palette%20P385618&skuId=1573492&country_switch=ca&productId=P385618&_requestid=98121

blank untitled

Aveda Fire Maple Lip Liner-  This baby is fresh out of the new Fall and Winter 2014 Aveda Collection. Beautiful Red! (my fave color to wear!) I wear it either alone or underneath Relentlessly Red by Mac. At the moment…this is lost somewhere in one of my million purses 😦 (hopefully)

fire

Hair and Body:

Aveda Brilliant Damage Control-  I have had this used in my hair numerous times at work when I have had my hair done and have no idea why I haven’t bought it till now. My hair has always been tangley. I mean Super tangley!! I didn`t think it could get worse…till I started gradually lightening it. Think of what your hair is like when you come in from a wind and rain storm and then throw in some back combing gone wrong and you have what my hair is like on a daily basis. You can not move my hair without it jumbling together. Especially if it is wet. I like to think I have a pretty tough scalp, because when myself or someone brushes it, it is usually a workout!! Anyway, that all being said, this spray is great! It makes brushing my hair much easier and my hair just a bit softer. It also helps protect against any thermal or UV damage!

av_A1KC_254

Nip + Fab Detox Blend Body Wash- This stuff smells amazing. I just stumbled upon this at Winners one day and said “What the heck! I need a new body wash“ The scent is aromatic tea tree, green tea, jasmine and frankincense. I`m not sure where I would be able to find this again when I run out, so if anyone knows where to buy this or other products from the Nip + Fab line, let a girl know! 🙂

nipandfab

FLOPS!  😦 😦

I don`t have many flops for this summer, but the ones I do have, I really don`t like.

Marc Anthony 2nd Day Clear Dry Shampoo- the smell for this is okay, but my hair felt worse and dirtier after I applied this. It felt wet. I love my dry shampoos because I frankly dread “Hair wash day“ so this product was very disappointing. I think I will just stick to my Batiste Dry Shampoo and call it a day.

clar

Maybelline Master Kajal Crème Kohl Liner- wasn`t overly impressed with this at all. I bought the black shade. Didn`t like the pigmentation or the consistency. Maybe it`s just me, but I can`t see myself ever using this.

Onyx-Rush-Master%20Kajal-Pack

Makeup Geek Loose Pigments in New Years Eve and Sweet Dreams- I`m on the fence with these two. I so desperately want to like them because everyone else does…. But I just don`t!! I find loose pigments messy and harder to apply then pressed pigments. The colors really don`t look like the swatches I looked up before I ordered them. Kind of the glad it wasn`t my money that bought them 😦 …Who knows, Maybe I`ll order other colors in the future and like them more…

And there you have it….a very long list of products I’ve either loved or hated over this past summer. Hope this helps if anyone was on the fence about buying any of these things or were just simply interested in looking for new stuff to add to your collection like me 😉

June’s Faves, Raves and Flops..A collective haul

I purchased quite a few new goodies this June…and the month still isn’t over yet, so there may or may not be more to come!! 😉

Faves and Raves

Hair Products:

Image

Bumble and Bumble Surf spray- I previously mentioned this product before. Perfect for those days you don’t want to fuss with your hair too much(which is every day with me!) Just spray into damp hair and it gives you light beachy waves…or spray into to dry hair to mess it up a little. I have bought other types of products like this before claiming to do the same things and they never lived up to their expectations, but this one definitely did! I also don’t like a ton of product in my hair, this stuff was light and It didn’t feel like it was weighing my hair down.

Aveda Invati Scalp Revitalizer- Working for a salon that carries strictly Aveda products has many advantages! We get to work with great products daily and having a staff discount is dangerous!! My bathroom could be its own mini Aveda shop! Now this product you may have seen being advertised in Magazines or in Television commercials. The Invati System was developed to help with thinning hair, which I’ve recently had some issues with. (Bad hair habits, too tight ponytails and stress man!! Its a killer!!!) So I decided to purchase the Scalp Revitalizer.  Its supposed to reduce your hair loss by 33% (when used with the shampoo and conditioner) but I thought hey, I’ll try this first and you know what? I really think its helping. My hair loss isn’t getting any worse *knock on wood* and my bathroom isn’t covered with hair all over the place!(plus, I don’t have to get the poor bf to clean out the bathtub drain as much, you’re welcome Steve)

Batiste Dry Shampoo for Dark or dark brown hair- I’ve bought every Batiste dry shampoo out there and this is by far my fave! It doesn’t leave that white residue as much because the shampoo is brown!!! Love it for my lazy hair days( 5/7 days of the week) and it also gives my hair some great volume!

Caboki- Like I said, I’ve been having some issues with my hair lately and saw this advertised on YouTube in one of those commercials I usually would have waited the 15secs to hit skip on! I didn’t this time and was sold on the product! I received this bottle as a free sample if I signed up and its basically the same as a full size, so it will last forever! What caboki is, is a fibrous product you can get in any hair color to match your own.  It attaches to surrounding hairs and helps hide any signs of hair loss. Now what I have going on, on my head is not NEAR what the models in the videos have going on, its pretty cool to see the transformation. Where my hair is so dark and my scalp is so light, it makes a major difference! I will be using this till my scalp gets its shit together and stops acting like a 40 year old man.

Cricket Company’s Detangling Brush- I love this. Didn’t believe anything would possibly brush through my mop so easily. But I was dead wrong! It worked on dry tangles and also my dreadful wet hair way better then any wide tooth comb. I didn’t feel like I was slowly breaking off all my hair. If you or your children struggle with unruly hair, Id highly suggest this!

Fruits and Passions Travel Size Eau De Toilettes In Blue and White Tea- I’ve been buying all kinds of mini perfumes lately because I get so sick of scents, that I never go through the full size bottles (minus Dolce and Gabanna’s Light Blue, that stuff is my Holy Grail perfume only used for special occasions ❤ ) These sizes are perfect to just throw in a purse and go. I used to work for Fruits and Passions when I lived in Calgary and was so sad to move back to a town where they don’t have a store…but I was pleasantly surprised when I found a limited selection of their things in Lawtons. 🙂 🙂 Both of these perfumes are very light in smell and nice summer scents! Go Get some!!!!

Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs- this stuff is awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I hate my legs and this stuff makes wearing a shorter dress more “bareable” ha!… get it?! Anyway…I just picked this up at shoppers when it was on for like half price and I love it!! I know I have seen the spray version before and people seem to like that, but I like this lotion. My legs seriously looked like I had Nylons on! I think it comes in a few different colors and Medium was definitely the best to make my legs look a little more tanned and even! No veins or scars!!! yey! Also, it doesn’t transfer on to your clothing which is huge and it just washes off with soap and water, but you have to sort of scrub at it!  I didn’t try this anywhere other then my legs but Im sure you could use it all over your body if you needed to hide any imperfections!

Loreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara in Blackest Black…..New Fave! love this stuff! love the brush! everything!….except the fact that I may or may not be allergic to it since I woke up the past week every morning with itchy eyes…but whatever, Beauty is pain right?! I like this stuff and bought a few just in case they ever discontinue it!

Image

Elf cosmetics Brow Set, Blush and Bronzer and High Definition Undereye setting powder…All Inexpensive and found at Target…pretty sure I let out a little squeal when I saw the display, also pretty sure the security guard was watching me like a hawk because I think I was drooling in the makeup section that day. I AM NOT A THEIF!!! I just like wandering around makeup isles for long periods of time! Sorry!!….not SORRY!!!!…. It was either that or he thought I was pretty…I’ll go with the latter reason 😉

Ps I think the Bronzer and blush duo is a dupe for some Nars Orgasm blush and Laguna bronzer!!!!

Image

Nyx Retractable Lip pencil in Nude Pink- decent quality…nice color for every day wear and inexpensive.. so there for, I like it!

Essence Eye Liner in Dark brown…it was 2 bucks and an after thought at the cash register at Shoppers…Glad I grabbed it though. Super soft and dark brown is a great alternative to black liner in the day time!

Image

Benefit Fake up Concealer- although I haven’t had this long.. I think I am going to like it. I bought it in the color Light. Its super smooth and doesn’t settle in my tiny fine lines under my eyes. Anything will help with my bad circles lately! It’s easier to buy makeup then to try to get some decent sleep these days!

Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powders…2 for $10 at Walmart Ladies!! I bought these in the colors Natural and Buff Beige. I’ve heard quite good things about these and They seem to be pretty good for drugstore powders!  I bought these to set the Benefit Concealer. Hopefully they work out.

Image

Milani Brow and Eye Highlighters- Ps Wal-Mart now carries Milani products as well! YeY!! This works great under the brow bone, in the inside corners of the eye and also on the water line to brighten! One side is matte and the other is shimmer. I believe I bought this In the color 01.

Image

Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish eye shadow- I’m on the fence with this one. Can’t quite decide if its a Fave or Flop. I bought this with expectation of a getting a great sparkly shadow. I’m not sure if I’m not using it properly of what. It looks beautiful in the container but not as pigmented as I thought. Also, the eye primer that came in the package, had little to nothing left in it 😦

Image

Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Sweet Grapefruit- this wasn’t too bad. I kind of hate the smell though, but the color is a nice light pink and a pretty shade for summer, so that’s something?

Flops

Image

Loreal Collection Privee Lipsticks….These were on sale for half off and I should of known why there were so many left. They look really pretty in their packaging, but I hate how they feel on my lips. The Color payoff isn’t great either. Save your money.

Image

Maybelline Dream Lumi Concealer- I know a lot of people rave over this stuff, but It just isn’t for me. Maybe its the color I bought or something I don’t know. I just don’t find it does what I want it to which is hide under eye circles and high light my face a bit.

Image

Color Revolution Mineral Foundation and Blush- I bought this on a whim at Lawtons . It was new and looked interesting and I do like mineral makeup, so I thought “hey, what the heck?! Ill try it” The blush was way to sparkly for my liking. It was also Kind of disappointing when I paid $20 for a drugstore foundation that I didn’t love.

Hope You enjoyed this little read and encourages you to go out and try some new products!
